Nothing Special; deprogramming your daze is medicine.
Hello, it is an absolute pleasure and honour to speak to you this way. Whoever you are, but nonetheless, one in the same as I.
I'm here to tell you of how I have 'come back to life' and hope to serve others in small and large ways, to come back their life too. Here I will share my experience of the simple daily practises which have transformed my psyche and general quality of life and notes from my obsessive interest of the intersections between psychedelic pharmacology, interior life, neurology, geography, the power of metaphor, health, zen, energy, healing, humanity, nature, generational resilience and the compiled advice from elder people that I meet. Also please note this is also stream of consciousness writing, whereby I output for connection, communication and challenge with others, I am not here to preach, only deliver what I feel I have learnt.
Firstly, it is important to start with the wisdom of the world, which tells us to 'beware of un-earnt wisdom'. As well as the wisdom of my grandma; "everything in moderation". So follow on with your own discernment always.
This will all sound so simple, which is good, that is why it is sustainable and medicinal, as opposed to living in the energy of chaos. We see cohesive patterning across nature so why not in our own internal architectures and reality.
Look at your day as the blueprint. If you are disconnected from your body, your body rules your day and how you live it. Enter the Bridge. If you connect to your body, you rule your day. And here is when the healing may begin. However, depending on your current relations to your life, this bridge may vary in size.
A year ago, I observed my day chronologically:
-How was your sleep? Did it actually rest you or did you wake up aching and tired?
-When and how do I wake up?
-What do I do first thing? Is there a routine? (routines scientifically and holistically are known to support your health, especially in traditional Chinese medicine)
-What do you wear? Is it plastic? Is is handmade? Are there way too many items in your wardrobe? Most importantly; is there a clear intention behind the objects you keep around you and in your life?
Note 1: If the world you maintain around you is intentional and exudes clarity, then your internal world will reorganise itself to be the same - if you do a huge clear out, this may create emotional upheaval and force you to process things - the point is you will only do these things if you want to anyway, so if your find yourself there, wanting to let go, wanting to process, wanting to rebuild yourself for yourself, then allow this process to happen thoroughly and deeply, don't rush and appreciate every emotion - it is all part of one huge tapestry of life - not good or bad. And again, beware of un earnt wisdom, it is utterly necessary we truly go through the entire process of our unfolding, whilst staying grounded with hobbies, friends, family and normal life; chop wood carry water / wash the dishes hang the laundry - so your mind is able to compartmentalise as we go alone - I believe.
-What and how do you eat? Do you eat fast?
-Do you understand and/or appreciate what the food has gone through to get to you, in the commodified western world (if you live there)?
Side Note: Many of the best diets around the world, consist of high-quality extra virgin olive oil, quality local produce and consumption that is paired with sharing a deep joy and gratitude for life with loved ones. This is the secret ingredient that cannot be sold. $$$. On a more wild note, I find the reports of people who have experienced the Shepherdess, Salvia Divinorum, to be exquisitely interesting. With great honour and reverence to the ancient and proper knowledge of this divine plant, known best by Mazatec Shamans of Mexico, I wish to speak of somebody's experience I read online. This person exclaimed that they were told: We are always interacting with the spirit of something, whether that be an orange through it's taste or a plant by ingesting it and experiencing the wisdom that is offered. This perspective opened me up quickly to feeling a deeper connection to the seemingly objective world around me and an innate sense of responsibility regarding my actions and intentions, towards it.
Note 2: Action and Intentions, from what I have seen so far, seem to be the direct channel for how you want your life to 'manifest'. They are after all the bridge between what is going on inside your interior world and how you express to the external world, right? Like, in caveman terms; more love = more giving and more hate = more violence? Simple translation. Emotional alchemy is important here, in the process of experiencing your painful emotions truly so you can open the door to the other side and discover the riches of forgiveness.
-Why are you getting ready? What informs the way you do it?
-Do you lack motivation to do it? Do you overthink?
-Is your space cluttered? Why?
Note 3: Ask WHY. Every. Single. Time. Why? Because if your intention is to cross the bridge from being disconnected to your body, to becoming connected and finer attuned to your body and thus reality, then knowing why is probably the bridge. You are cultivating intention in the soil of your life, like a farmer, we must only tend the field (Joko Beck, 2009), and the fruits will grow themselves via the nutrition of life. Ultimately, this tending is what leads to rewriting your baseline functioning.
-These questions can go on, depending on what you wish to transform. It is also important to keep in mind the blessings you have in life already and remain rooted to your values, quotidian tasks and sentiment. It is easy to fall into a fanatical sense of discovery, since this world is so paradoxically incredible. But this leads me to my final note:
Note 4: If you find yourself looking for something more fantastic than what is here right now, perhaps ensure you are covering the groundwork thoroughly. You don't want to get dizzy. There is ALWAYS plenty of groundwork to get on with. I love this concept, because if you spend a day at home, without trying to do anything new, but cover all the groundwork with attention and precision; dusting corners and recycling old items, I would be sure that your sense of satisfaction, achievement and improved quality of life would be so much so that you see the positive impacts of flowing vitality in your external world rather quickly. This is the magic. The magic of the quotidian (a nod to the works of Henri Lefebvre, if you're interested.)
Conclusion
Here we have looked at how, asking why to small snippets of your day, behaviours and intentions can ultimately transform the bigger picture. It is 'nothing special' (Joko Beck, 2009), and perhaps we are better not looking for anything special, but to beware of un earned wisdom and to be devotional in how we treat ourselves and our daily lives as an act of gratitude and reverence for the gift of life.
Reflective Note - This writing itself sort of crossed the bridge from clutter to calm. It is symptomatic of a society that has too much and therefore imbues more stuff with less of their soul. Whereas, when we cut the noise, we end up with less and more of ourselves to give to it. This is innate living but I feel we have stepped away from that in the west and many are desperately seeking simplicity. I think we can still have that, to the extent we wish to weave it into our lives and the society in which we experience???
